Jeff Garmire

Jeff cresceu a viajar de mochila às costas com a sua família no Noroeste do Pacífico. Estava longe de ser uma mochila ultraleve, mas cada um carregava 15 quilos e caminhava 5 quilómetros até um lago para pescar e acampar durante o fim de semana. Aos 2 anos de idade, Jeff apanhou giárdia numa dessas viagens e noutra teve tantas picadas de mosquito que a creche pensou que ele tinha varicela.

A pesca, a construção de jangadas de troncos e a apanha de rastejantes foram acompanhadas por mochilas às costas. A primeira caminhada foi quando Jeff tinha 20 anos, na PCT, e desde então estabeleceu 16 recordes de velocidade em trilhos e percorreu mais de 30 mil quilómetros.
